Knowledge is Power

Any book lovers out there? Our family can't get enough, although lately I find myself reading more of Hippos Go Berserk or Green Eggs and Ham than A Tale of Two Cities.

Shayn had a brilliant idea recently as he was reading The Omnivore's Dilemma. He wanted to start a farm library. Books and movies that talk about the food we are eating and where it comes from. A library for our customers to use and learn from, because reading and learning will help us all make better choices. It will spark discussions. It will enable us to help others become aware of the issues surrounding our food. We have noticed that when customers purchase meat from us, they already know what they want and why they want it. They have educated themselves and are very knowledgeable about their food. If someone doesn't know the difference between grass-fed and grain-fed beef, we really can't do much to convince them why grass is better. But reading a book or watching a documentary might just do the trick. Our hope is to make it easier to get that information to more people!

So here is the beginning of our little library. Curl up with a blanket and a copy of Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. Invite some friends over, pop some popcorn scratch that - slice up some veggies and watch "King Corn". There is no charge to check out a book or movie. We just ask that you bring them back when you're finished so other customers can use them as well. If you are interested just stop by our farm on Saturdays from 9am to 12pm. You can find more information, including our address, here on our seperate cuts page.
