5 Simple Dinners from a Beef Share
Your freezer is full from your beef share, and now comes the big question: “What do I do with all of these different cuts?” You’re not alone! While ground beef is an easy one for most families, the other cuts can feel a little intimidating at first.
But here’s the thing - cooking from your freezer isn’t just about getting dinner on the table. It’s about feeding your family well. Yes, it takes a little effort, but it’s the kind of work that pays off in the best way: nourishing meals, gathered around the table, and food you can feel good about AND in return makes you feel good!
The great news? You don’t need fancy recipes or hours in the kitchen. Our family eats the same beef we raise, and most nights I’m looking for fast, simple meals that feed my kiddos without a lot of fuss. Here are five of my go-to dinners, straight from our freezer to yours.
1. Slow Cooker Chuck Roast → Sunday Roast, Monday Sandwiches
Pop a chuck roast in the slow cooker with broth, onions, carrots, and potatoes. Let it cook all day, and dinner practically makes itself. Best part? Leftovers. Shred the meat for roast beef sandwiches, enchiladas, or add it to a veggie stir-fry the next night. Two meals, one roast. Here’s a link to a simple recipe:
2. Ground Beef Skillet → One-Pan Taco Night
Ground beef is the ultimate “plan B” dinner. Brown a pound with onions, add your favorite taco seasoning, and serve with tortillas, cheese, and whatever toppings you have on hand. Here’s my favorite homemade taco seasoning mix:
3. Stew Meat → Hearty Stew or Instant Pot Beef Tips
Stew meat is already cut and ready to go. Just toss it in a pot with potatoes, carrots, and broth for a comforting stew.
If you’re short on time, use the Instant Pot: beef tips + broth + mushrooms = tender, savory goodness in under an hour.
4. Steaks → Quick Pan-Seared Steaks
Not every steak night has to be a production. Pat dry, season with salt and pepper, and sear in a hot skillet with a little butter and garlic, or your favorite seasoning. When cooking on the stove, we like to cut them into pieces and have steak bites. They seem to cook more evenly this way. And really ten minutes later you’ve got a dinner that feels special but takes less time than ordering takeout.
5. Chili Burgers → A Bowler Family Favorite
This one’s a bit of family history in our house. Shayn’s grandma made these chili burgers when he visited her growing up and it became one of his favorites. Now our kids love them just as much.
Kind of like a Sloppy Joe, but with a little more kick. Brown ground beef with onions, stir in your favorite chili seasonings (tomato sauce, chili powder, garlic, maybe a dash of cumin), and let it simmer until thick.
Spoon the mixture onto buns and top with shredded cheese for a hearty, messy, and oh-so-good dinner. It’s simple, filling, and guaranteed to bring everyone to the table fast.
Bonus Tip: Always Be Ready for Dinner
The trick to stress-free meals can be as simple as planning ahead. Pull a cut from the freezer the night before and let it thaw in the fridge. Keep a couple packs of ground beef on hand for last-minute dinners.
